Reading in on the news this a.m. I see that Tyrone Williams was convicted for smothering, then abandoning, a trailer full of Latino immigrants. The book I’m listening to this week and fell asleep/spent time during insomnia/woke up to is "Dying to Cross: The Worst Immigrant Tragedy in American History." Last thing I remember hearing last night was the part where he stopped the truck, panicked, then abandoned his human cargo.
HOUSTON (AP) — A truck driver was convicted Monday for his role in the nation’s deadliest human smuggling attempt, in which 19 of 70 people trapped in a tomb-like trailer died from dehydration, overheating and suffocation. Jurors will decide whether the driver, Tyrone Williams, should be sentenced to death or life in prison. The federal jury convicted Williams of 58 counts for the transport and deaths of illegal immigrants during a May 2003 smuggling attempt. Williams had no visible reaction when the verdict was read.
